Kiwi and Raspberry Flowers

I started prepping for my daughter’s first birthday party today. I didn’t really pick a theme, but all of the decorations a bought had butterflies and flowers on it, so I guess it’s sort of a spring theme. We definitely need something cheery after this endless winter! I found these super cute flowers made out of kiwi and raspberries on Pinterest ( They seemed easy enough to make.

I pulled together the following materials:

  • Small flower-shaped cookie cutter (I found mine at Michael’s)
  • Pairing knife
  • Kiwi
  • Raspberries

I started by cutting the skin off the kiwi and sliced it into four pieces.

Next, I pushed the flower-shaped cookie cutter through the center of the kiwi slice.

Finally, I place a raspberry on top of the kiwi flower.

These were so cute and would be fun for Easter too!

DIY Utensil Holder

My daughter’s 1st birthday is coming up next weekend and we’re having a little party to celebrate. I usually buy one of those plastic containers filled with disposable utensils, pull off the top, and put the container on the table for people to grab. I saw a cute picture on Pinterest where someone took an empty tin can, covered it with wrapping paper, and used it to display utensils for a birthday party ( I thought this was a great idea! The website just had a picture, but it seemed easy enough to make.

First, I pulled together all of the materials I would need.

  • Tin cans
  • Wrapping paper (I used gift bag because that’s what I already had on-hand)
  • Scissors
  • Tape
  • Ribbon

Next, I cut the gift bag so it was one big sheet of paper. Then I measured out the size I wanted, based on the size of the cans, and cut out the bag.

I wrapped the paper around the cans and secured it with a piece of tape.

Finally, I tied some ribbon around each can and added the utensils. I think it came out super cute!

Banana Chia Muffins

If you aren’t into keeping up with those crazy health food trends, then you probably haven’t heard that people are eating chia seeds now. Yes, these are the same seeds that came with those silly chia pets from the 80s….Ch-ch-ch-chia! It sounds strange, but chia seeds are actually super healthy. They are an excellent source of fiber and omega-3s, and are great for your bones and teeth. I Iike to mix them into yogurt or make a chia pudding. Maybe one of my future Pinterest Adventures will be making chia pudding…it’s so good!

I recently found out that you can also bake with chia seeds. When you soak chia seeds in liquid they turn jelly-like, which is supposed to act like eggs in a recipe. Cool! I had four bananas that were super ripe, perfect for baking with, but I didn’t want to make a typical banana bread. So I did some searching and found an interesting recipe on Pinterest for banana chia muffins ( This is a take on a recipe for banana chia bread from Dr. Oz.

I pretty much followed the recipe just as written. It was very easy to make and used whole wheat flour, so it was very healthy too! I’m sure you could substitute all-purpose flour and it would be fine, wheat flour isn’t for everyone. The muffins were yummy. My 11-month-old liked them too!

Nail Polish Key Covers

I have several keys on my keychain that look the same as my house key. This causes me to fumble with my keys when trying to get into the house. This is particularly annoying when it is freezing cold outside.

This week’s Pinterest Adventure post is a quick one, but hopefully very helpful 🙂 I found this web page on Pinterest that has a ton of great and easy DIY projects ( and #7 was nail polish key covers.

It’s so easy! Just paint the top of each key with different shades of nail polish. You just have to remember which color goes with which key. I chose a pretty purple for my house key. Super easy and very useful!
